That's not an oversight. That's the strategy. New CEO John Ternus's first keynote, and he came out swinging: other foldables feel like "two phones stuck together." Samsung claimed back mid-keynote: "let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers 😉" They earned that one. Apple's first foldable lands seven years after Samsung's first one. Here's the part that gets me as an engineer. The Duo runs the same 48MP dual camera setup as the 18 Pro, just without the telephoto lens and without the new variable aperture. The cheaper phone next to it has the better camera. On purpose. Because the Duo isn't the product. It's the billboard. Foldables are under 2% of global phone shipments. Nobody builds a business on 2%. The 18 Pro does the volume. The Duo does the talking. And it's working. IDC expects Apple to grab a third of the foldable market's value in year one, in a category it entered seven years late, at the top of the price range. Samsung took the actual risk back in 2019. Bent hinges, broken review units, the whole beating. Apple showed up in 2026 with two decades of trust and a problem someone else already solved. Shipping first gets you the patents. At a festival in Iceland, 3,300 people were surrounded by scooters almost nobody was using. The crowd included astronauts, scientists, engineers, genuinely smart people. The issue wasn't intelligence. Most people hit one tiny piece of friction and stopped: ❌ "I don't know what app this uses." ❌ "I'm not sure how to unlock it." ❌ "I didn't know I could." My ADHD brain did the thing instead. Took a photo, asked AI "what app unlocks this scooter?", downloaded it, was riding two minutes later 😂 Ended up catching almost twice as many shows because of it. 🛴⚡ Here's why this matters for anyone in tech: AI is lowering the cost of finding answers. So your edge shifts upstream. 1️⃣ Notice something others ignore 2️⃣ Ask one more question 3️⃣ Use AI to investigate 4️⃣ Test it in the real world 5️⃣ Repeat Your advantage isn't what you know anymore. It's what you think to ask 🧠 See something weird? Ask why. Feel friction? Ask if it has to exist. Don't get how something works? Ask anyway. I built a company called Y Combinator Combinator. It’s a YC startup that builds YC startups. I built it on Manus in like 30 minutes, I didn’t write a line of code, and then I had it write the YC application, and then I actually submitted the thing. As a joke. BUT. I met so many YC founders in my Burningman camp that I kinda want to join for real now… So here are five things I learned about actually getting into YC, all of them real: 1️⃣ If you can’t explain it in ten minutes, you don’t understand it.That’s Garry Tan’s rule, and the YC interview is literally ten minutes long. The first two questions are “what is it” and “why are you working on it.” 2️⃣ They fund founders, not ideas.** Somewhere between 20 and 30% of YC companies change their idea during the batch, sometimes the entire industry. So the application isn’t really about your idea. 3️⃣ Ship something first.What matters most is what you’ve built and what you can build. A deployed link beats a deck every time, and building is free now, so there is no excuse left. 4️⃣ Earnestness beats polish.Tan says the number one trait YC selects for is earnestness. Not credentials. 5️⃣ Apply anyway. They get 70 to 80 thousand applications a year and take about 1%. That number is designed to make you not apply. Follow to find out if YC said yes.
