Threads Integration

Automatically cross-post to and from Threads without leaving your favorite platform.

How it works

Connect your Threads account via Meta OAuth. Ferryman will automatically sync your posts to Threads whenever you post on your origin platform — no manual copying needed, no separate composer to learn.

Why cross-post to Threads

Threads is the largest of the X-style platforms outside of X itself. Meta bootstrapped it from Instagram, which means hundreds of millions of monthly active users came pre-installed — and the platform keeps adding features that make it stickier (search, topic tags, fediverse interop). For most creators, the question isn't whether to be on Threads, it's how to be there without doubling your workload.

The audience composition is also genuinely different from X. Threads inherits Instagram's skew toward lifestyle, sports, pop-culture, and creator-economy discussion. Posts that fall flat on X — too earnest, too visual, too “long-form Instagram caption” — often perform well on Threads. Even if you only treat Threads as a backup distribution channel, the floor of what it costs you is one click in Ferryman.

The algorithm matters here. Unlike Bluesky's chronological default, Threads is algorithmic, and the algorithm visibly rewards consistency. Posting once a week underperforms posting daily even with identical content quality — which is exactly the kind of consistency cross-posting from X solves for free.

What gets synced

  • Text posts up to 500 characters
  • Images and media attachments
  • Alt text on images — preserved from the source platform
  • Long posts split into native Threads threads automatically when over 500 characters
  • Link previews and embedded URLs
  • Videos up to 5 minutes (Creator plan)

What works well on Threads

Cross-posting from X to Threads works, but the same content doesn't always land identically. A few patterns from how content actually performs once it gets there:

  • Conversational beats terse. X rewards punchy one-liners; Threads's 500-character limit and Instagram-adjacent culture reward posts that feel like you're actually talking to someone.
  • Visual content overperforms. Threads users came from Instagram. Posts with an image attached tend to get more reach than the same post text-only.
  • Topical hooks travel. Sports moments, TV/movie reactions, and live cultural commentary tend to surface in topic feeds the way they used to on X.
  • Replies are amplified. Threads gives replies significant feed real estate. A thoughtful reply on a viral post is its own discovery mechanism.
  • Insider tech inside-jokes underperform. The Threads audience skews broader than X-tech. Content that's heavy on industry shorthand or hot-take Twitter culture often doesn't translate.

Use Threads as your origin

If Threads is where you prefer to create, set it as your origin and Ferryman will sync to X, Bluesky, Mastodon, and LinkedIn automatically — splitting longer Threads posts into native threads on the smaller-limit platforms.

Setup

  1. Sign in to Ferryman
  2. Go to Settings and click Connect next to Threads
  3. Authorize via Meta OAuth (uses your Instagram/Threads login)
  4. Enable cross-posting and select Threads as a target (or origin)

Tips for cross-posting to Threads

  • Don't skip days. The Threads algorithm visibly rewards consistency. Daily cross-posts via Ferryman maintain the “active poster” signal even on days you didn't write specifically for Threads.
  • Include the image when you can. Even when an image feels optional on X, attaching one nudges the Threads algorithm. Ferryman preserves whatever media you attached on the source platform.
  • Use #noferry on X-only stuff. Replies to X-specific drama or insider references to users not on Threads add noise. Skip them with #noferry rather than cross-post confusing context.
  • Watch your engagement, not your followers. Threads' algorithm surfaces posts to non-followers heavily. Reach numbers will look strange compared to X. The useful signal is whether engagement (replies, reposts) is coming from people you'd want to reach.

Frequently asked questions

How does Ferryman connect to Threads?

Ferryman authenticates with Threads through Meta's official OAuth flow — the same login you use for Instagram. You authorize Ferryman to post on your behalf and Threads issues the access token directly.

Can I automatically cross-post from X to Threads?

Yes. Set X as your origin platform and check Threads as a target. New X posts are mirrored to Threads within minutes. See the X-to-Threads cross-post guide for the full setup.

Does Ferryman support cross-posting videos to Threads?

Yes, on the Creator plan. Videos up to 5 minutes can be cross-posted to Threads. Shorter video formats from X, Bluesky, or LinkedIn are passed through directly.

Why didn't a specific post sync to Threads?

Common reasons: the post included #noferry (opt-out tag), the post was a reply or quote (off by default), or you've hit your daily cross-post limit on the current plan. The Posts page in Ferryman shows the exact skip reason.

Is cross-posting to Threads allowed by Meta?

Yes. Ferryman uses Threads' official Graph API and the standard Meta OAuth flow — no scraping, no automation hacks. Posts cross-posted via Ferryman are treated the same as posts made directly in Threads.

Can I use Threads as my origin platform?

Yes. Set Threads as your origin and Ferryman will sync your Threads posts to X, Bluesky, Mastodon, and LinkedIn automatically.
