01

Articles, not snippets

Each post becomes one Dev.to article with a title, a markdown body, tags, and a cover image.

02

Connect with an API key

Paste a Dev.to API key in Settings. Ferryman verifies it and stores it encrypted.

03

Keep one publishing workflow

Add Dev.to to immediate posts, scheduled publishing, platform groups, and automatic sync.

How it works

One more home for your technical writing

Write in Ferryman or post on a supported origin. Eligible original content is published to your Dev.to profile as an article. Dev.to never becomes a source for other platforms.

  1. 01

    Connect your account

Create an API key at dev.to/settings/extensions and add it to Dev.to in Ferryman Settings.

  2. 02

    Select Dev.to as a destination

Add Dev.to to Create, your schedule, a platform group, or a sync flow.

  3. 03

    Publish the article

Ferryman maps your post to a Dev.to article and links to it alongside your other destinations.

Platform support

What Ferryman supports with Dev.to

The exact behavior depends on the content, connected account, destination requirements, and Ferryman plan.

01

Title from the first line

The first line becomes the title, so a short post still reads as a complete article.

02

Markdown body

Everything after the first line is sent as the article's markdown body.

03

Tags from hashtags

Up to four hashtags become Dev.to tags.

04

Cover and images

The first image is the cover; up to three more are embedded in the article.

05

Scheduled posts

Choose a future publishing time for your Dev.to destination in Ferryman.

06

Automatic sync

Publish eligible original posts from X, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, LinkedIn, or a Facebook Page.

Platform details

Destination-only, with clear content boundaries

  • Dev.to is available to all users with a Dev.to API key.
  • Dev.to is not an automatic origin.
  • Video, threads, replies, quote posts, and reposts are not supported or flattened.
  • Titles are capped at 128 characters; a longer first line is shortened and the full text stays in the body.
  • Articles are published, not saved as Dev.to drafts.

Dev.to questions, answered

Can Ferryman publish to Dev.to?

Yes. Connect your Dev.to account with an API key from your Dev.to settings, then choose Dev.to as a destination in Create, your schedule, a platform group, or a sync flow. Each post is published as one Dev.to article.

How does a post become a Dev.to article?

The first line becomes the article title (up to 128 characters) and the rest becomes the markdown body. When there is nothing after the first line, the whole post is the body. Up to four hashtags become tags, and the first image is the cover.

Can Dev.to be an automatic source?

No. Dev.to is a destination only. Ferryman does not read your Dev.to articles or cross-post them to other platforms.

Can I sync posts from X or Bluesky to Dev.to?

Yes. Add Dev.to as a destination of a sync flow and each new original post from your origin is published as an article. Threads, replies, quote posts, reposts, and posts with video are skipped, not flattened.

Does Ferryman support video on Dev.to?

No. Dev.to articles take text and images. Posts with video are not published to Dev.to.

Are articles published or saved as drafts?

Articles are published on Dev.to as soon as Ferryman sends them.
